MISSION STATEMENT
Compelling characters in consequential situations.
A Little Bit About KM:
I served in the UN Navy. Then I was in workers comp. Then I got a tumor. Now you’re caught up.
Why Write?
Someone once said (and I’m paraphrasing, because I don’t know who said it), “You are going to write for hours. For days. For years… If you knew that you were not going to make a single penny from your writing… would you still do it? If the answer is, “yes.” Then you might be a writer.”
Do you have a passion for this story? Do you feel like you can’t live without this story getting out? What is that story? If this was the last story you could ever tell, what would it be? If you only had ONE story you could EVER tell, what would it be?
Well, that’s what I did. I wrote. And with this tumor, I said: It’s now or never. I don’t say that whole tumor thing for sympathy, I mention it because that’s what got me going. Truth is, I didn’t need a tumor in order for that to happen. I should have done this a long time ago. BUT, you should always look forward. Things are what they are, they are not going to change, and I’ve done nothing but look forward.
More About My Writing:
I imagine that I’m sitting around a campfire telling a story. There’s a little embellishment, there are some dramatic pauses, but what I’m trying to do is reel the people in.
Writing a story is not much different. Reel in the readers and take them for a ride. All the while, have my protagonist zig-zag through the story while pulling the reader along.
I was a big fan of the old 80’s Saturday Morning cartoons and shows, mostly: The A-Team, Transformers and Robotech. I liked the dynamic of the A-Team, the dominate figure that Optimus Prime was, the rags to riches story of Rick Hunter.
I always wanted to write. While in the Navy, I remember taking a piece of scratch paper and jotting down the bullet points of a story. So now I’m finally trying my hand at it.
Random Question Insert: Is Raiders of the Lost Ark the best movie ever made? Not just the script, but cinematography as well…
I like stories like: Bridge on the River Kwai. It’s a slow burn, but once it gets going, everything means something or happens because of what was set up before. I also like something akin to Transformers the Animated Movie from 1986, as it hits the ground running and doesn’t let up till the end credits. All the while there is character development (that’s important and often forgotten in a lot of stories that start with a bang).
I would like to think that I’ve taken something from all of thee above. Now, it is in your hands. Now, you decide if it’s any good or not. Hopefully it is. Hopefully you enjoy it. Hopefully you’ll come back to see what else I’ve done. Thank you all, even if this is just a one-time thing for you, I thank you all!
